Well Done Jump Rope UK!

Jump Rope UK flew out to Orlando in Florida on July 4 to compete in the World Jump Rope Championships 2013. The championship boasted teams from 13 different countries and the competition ran with qualifiers on the Friday and Sunday before the Grand finals took place on the Monday.

Jump Rope UK team took part in 13 different events and brought home five gold medals, two silver and one bronze from the qualifiers, which qualified them to compete in all their speed events and two of their freestyles on Grand Finals day.

On qualifier day Elly Allum was highest placed out of the Jump Rope UK squad for freestyle 17 & under as she took 12th place. Lauren Shepherd took fourth place in 3-minute speed for 17 & under, as did Gemma McGhee in the 18-29 years category.

Achievements in full: Qualifiers for Grand Finals: 30 second speed – Rebecca Cooper, silver; Gemma McGhee, bronze; pairs 30 second double unders – Rachael Dale and Rebecca Cooper, gold; 4×30 second speed relay – Rebecca Cooper (Jump Rope UK), Tori Boggs, Morgan Armstrong and Noah Mancuso from USA team Jump Rope Company USA, gold (Rebecca was asked to join them as they were a team member short); Gemma McGhee, Lauren Shepherd, Stacie Pegg and Chloe Greaves, silver; 3×40 second double dutch speed relay – Rebecca Cooper, Rachael Dale and Gemma McGhee, gold; 2×60 second double dutch speed relay – Rebecca Cooper, Rachael Dale, Lauren Shepherd and Gemma McGhee, gold; female individual freestyle routine – Rachael Dale, 4th place; 3 person double dutch freestyle – Rebecca Cooper, Rachael Dale and Lauren Shepherd, gold.

Grand Finals: 30 second speed – Rebecca Cooper, 4th place; pairs 30 second double unders – Rebecca Cooper and Rachael Dale, gold; 4×30 second speed relay – Rebecca Cooper (Jump Rope UK), Tori Boggs, Morgan Armstrong and Noah Mancuso from USA team, Jump Rope Company USA, gold in a new speed record for this event; Gemma McGhee, Lauren Shepherd, Stacie Pegg and Chloe Greaves, silver; 3×40 second double dutch speed relay – Rebecca Cooper, Rachael Dale and Gemma McGhee, gold; 2×60 second double dutch speed relay – Rebecca Cooper, Rachael Dale, Gemma McGhee and Lauren Shepherd, silver; double dutch fusion 30 second speed relay – Rebecca Cooper, Rachael Dale and Stacie Pegg, silver; female individual freestyle – Rachael Dale, silver.

 After the championships had finished there was a masquerade gala for all the athletes and coaches to enjoy, for which Rachael Dale worked alongside the World Jump Rope committee to organise.

The team are now working hard towards raising funds to attend next year’s World Jump Rope Championships which will be held at the same venue.
