Three girls from a Motherwell Jump Rope Academy at Dalziel High won an astonishing eight medals at the 2014 World Jump Rope Championships in Orlando.
Tammy Smith (14) from Motherwell, Claire Murray (15) from New Stevenson and Kiera McGuffie (11) from Kilmarnock, who are all current British Medalists, were the first ever Scottish competitors at the sport’s top event. Over 500 athletes took part from 15 different countries and thousands of people from across the world tuned into the live streams to see the girls in action.
The trio took Silver in the 30sec Double Dutch Speed event and Bronze in Double Dutch Fusion, where skipping is combined with gymnastics and dance. Claire won Bronze in the +17 30sec Pairs Double Unders competing along side a member from Jump Rope UK and British Gold Medalist Kiera took Bronze in the U11 Freestyle event. Tammy & Kiera were further awarded 4th Place Rosettes for their efforts in the 12-14 Chinese Wheel.
Head Coach Tracy Bannatyne said “I’m extremely pleased for the girls. They have been training 15hrs per week for the last 10wks and all produced personal bests on the World stage. They’ve done themselves and Scotland proud.
